Our school

Southport Special School is an Independent Public School.

Independent Public Schools are an initiative that provides schools with the opportunity to increase empowerment in decision-making and remove barriers to maximise student learning outcomes.

The department recognises that the best decision making often occurs at a local level through direct response to local community needs and aspirations.
It is about enabling school leaders to make decisions that will impact on teaching and learning while the department devotes resources to build capacity and capability, and provides an authorising environment built upon collaboration and shared responsibility.

We have 5 distinct teaching sections in the school – Junior -Prep to Year 2, Middle - Year 3 to Year 6,  Junior Secondary - Year 7 to Year 10, Senior - Year 11 and 12 and Active Learning - Prep to Year 11 (classes are developed to support students with physical support needs).

Our curriculum is based on ACARA, the national curriculum and QCAA guidelines.

School vision

We provide an individualised curriculum, with quality programs that develop in our students the knowledge, skills, attitudes and readiness to engage as valued members of the broader community.
